Don't You Cry, Choice and guitar Mikal Washington Gathering 2011

I was at Diamond Dave's open mic/spoken word circle when this beautiful young man introduced himself to me as Choice.

Choice said he played harmonica and would like me to accompany him with my guitar on a song for the family. We talked a bit about his style and decided with the short time to practice, a simple 12-bar blues song would work for him. I had just the song.

Choice and I went over to the trees and went through the song one time quickly and I think Choice did a great job.

Tenalli was in the circle that evening recording the music and poems, so if you want to hear Choice play his harmonica, click on the link to listen.

Don't You Cry At Kikapoo, Utah Gathering 2003

Tenali recorded this back in 2003. Digital field recording was still in it's infancy. I think he was using DAT back then. Utah was a difficult year for me. MarcyMellow died in the spring, and my Dad was in hospice while I was at Home. The energy in my life was like a pendulum on crack, and my experience at the gathering protracted that. It took me a long time to appreciate this recording.

Acorn! I remember you recording at Kid Village. Do you have any files? It would be fun to hear music with all the hashish coughing in the background.

Well I think the last line says it all Mikal! I wish there were more of your songs on here.

Wing, I downloaded tenalli's whole catalogue to my hard drive and play it in Shuffle mode, especially when I have company to share with. That along with my Rainbow slide show, can be healing. Oh we are so gifted.

Sounds really good!  You're both talented, practiced, and deliver with spirit!

Thanks for the Rainbow sounds link;  that will be warm and fuzzy to listen to (unlike the real experience which may well have been fuzzy... but not too warm).

Maybe Choice will come to RFG?  More intimate than FB....

I'm glad Tai. Thanks for commenting. Yes I'm singing too. The best part of the song is the circle. Don't you agree? That kind of loving energy is a free ride for a musician. I know it felt really good for Choice. I hope he discovers the recording. I'm pretty sure I told him to watch for it.
