RAINBOW FAMILY GATHERINGS: Unofficial Community for Rainbow Family
Space Containment and Housing is a group for collecting, sharing, and brainstorming emergency, temporary, portable, and permanent housing using alternative and low-tech methods and materials.
Thanks to Michael Treehouse for the appropriate name of this group and the diagram in our heading (see http://www.rainbowgatherings.org/photo/space-containment?xg_source=activity).

The time is coming when simple, easy-to-build shelter will be an important need to be filled.
There are many of us now who need reliable, easily transported shelter, and there are some of us who have a strong understanding and background in these things.
Whyt Mountain bear has recently started a discussion about one such type of structure and Michael Treehouse has contributed greatly to that thread.
There is more detail that needs to be ironed out, so I've created this group to accommodate those discussions, and any others pertaining to our need for safe reliable structures.
This group does not have any discussions yet.

This document (a 100 year-old book) has 100's of building ideas for everything from shelter to log cabins with fire places thrown in for good measure, plus lots of tool tips to go with them.
It's a 100-page word document. It's 2.2 Mbytes. Burn it on a DVD, put it on a thumb drive. Save it for posterity.

Thanks, Smith. Good stuff there- like this stove:
cheap and effective wood-burning stove
And I Love this one!
(I call it "What to do with your biogas")
Check this one out:
"Coroplast can be ordered with UV inhibitors and comes in a variety of colors and patterns, even camouflage for discrete homeless shelters, or bright colors for Emergency victims. Coroplast can also be screen printed. This is the same material used for outdoor campaign signs."
This guy's a creative genius- yes, we have some of our own, but he's another one.
Wow! you guys have been busy, Thank you for your input, suggestions and most of all your Love. I really like the 5 pole t-pee. One could easily attach 2nd floor supports using the spanish windlass.
I really liked the bulb in a bottle concept too. I saw that a few days ago and when I followed the link the vid was down.
As for the Hexa yurt hub I thought it might be easy to use a 6 bolt rim and steel pipe, bolting the pipe to the rim at the correct angle. If you were slick you would even use the bolt to hold the pole in place in the 'socket' . Utilizing a pipe you could make a 4 way socket that would fit two verticals and one diagonal roof support and be centered on the wall pole. I will work on doing a sketch up of that this weekend.
I also have a concept for a dual material hub that could be worked up easily in a jig. It would allow you to use either poles or sheet material.
I know that there has been discussion about housing here at Heartsong, but I want to let everyone know that it is fine. We are new and building. There is a lot to be done yet and this knowledge is most helpful, inspiring and timely. Thank you all for your contributions.
