Guidelines for a Conscious Community

Being a Libertarian at heart, I am no friend of limitations or structure per se, yet if individuals are to come together and live in a close knit community some form of consensus or generally accepted rights and responsibilities of the members must be adopted and adhered to. With out some form of guiding structure anarchy and chaos ensues, which left unchecked would ultimately lead to the dissolution of the community.   If undertaken by myself I would consider creating a document to “ground” or “guide” a conscious community difficult. There are many things to consider. Yet I am not proposing that we reinvent the wheel. There are several within the Rainbow community that have been here before and know what it takes. There are also documents from which inspiration and guidance can be drawn.   I am interested in creating a set of guidelines that will be easily adhered to. By utilizing or remembering the K.I.S.S. method, the principles and guidelines will be easily understood and followed. The creation of such a document might not be so simple but the results need to be. Clear definitions and concise wording will go a long way in helping others achieve gnosis or ‘grok’ the meaning. Said document must be robust enough to consider contingencies and variables as well as being simple enough to tailor to ones on needs. “Roger’s rules of Order” covers the format of a general meeting and can be used within that context. What we are concerned with here is the Rights and Responsibilities of community members with regards to that community.     I am not a specialist or lawyer. I do have my opinions, thoughts and feelings about a number of things, but it would be difficult to list them out of the blue. Without external input I would find it difficult to articulate my position. (Without darkness light would have no value or vice versa.) This being the case, I envision the process, and the outcome of this charter to be open source. I am asking for Ideas, Thoughts, Feelings, Intuitions, Links, Articles, Rules, Guidelines, Suggestions, and Critiques, or any other information that might prove useful in the creation of such a charter.

I thought I'd start an area where we can accumulate principles that have been discussed, formulated, and accepted as good ideas- only after they have been accepted as appropriate to the purpose and…Continue

Thanks much for broaching this subject. It has been heavy on my mind recently. Peace, love and sharing are great, but not when it is one-sided, and the givers end up being drained. I see a problem here, a common one. At what point am I no longer responsible for supporting my brothers and sisters around me? Is it after they have tapped my entire resource supply? I feel that we should teach younger brothers and sisters the value of hard work and teamwork, with everyone aiming toward a common goal. If you show up at my house and I take you in, make yourself useful! Be respectful of the space, help where you can. If we keep this attitude, we don't drain those around us.

Thnaks for that, gr33nm1nd.

It does help to organize our thoughts if we organize our topics.

An excellent suggestion.

I've been thinking we need a group on signs of the times and coming changes to help raise awareness in the family, which is really where this fits in. So maybe it's time to start that.

Seems very perceptive to me, sister.

But institutions of higher learning died long ago, when they were converted to worker-production systems. When they, like the lower schools, stopped teaching and started training fodder for the system. And now they are going the way of all other elements of a dying culture- down the tubes.

It is indeed time to find our place on the land and form conscious communities.

I see others landing in the street- lost, cold and hungry from lack of awareness and preparation.

And I see eventually many of them becoming metro-zombies, feeding on those around them- a good time to be on that land, well out of sight.

I saw on Link TV out here in California that higher education schools are going under. People either can't afford college or don't see the point in going. Thousands of dollars in debt into their middle age; can't get job to pay back the debt anyway; seen as wasting a lot of time and money. Immediate results are necessary now.

The next thing I see is people buying community land, having part-time jobs where they can find them, and getting the land they live on to produce.
