About CALM

CALM is the tribe of people at the Rainbow Gathering who are entrusted with setting up public health and sanitation systems and with providing health care for Family members during the Rainbow Gatherings.

The CALM staff is made up of volunteers representing a broad range of healing modalities. Among our group are found licensed medical doctors, chiropractors, acupuncturists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, certified homeopaths and naturopathic doctors, lay and nurse midwives, EMTs, social workers and mental health counselors, massage therapists, herbalists, Native American shamans and other spiritual healers. You do not need to be a formally trained “healer” to work at CALM. The Rainbow Gathering is a healing place and we are all at the Gathering to heal ourselves, the planet and, of course, each other. If you have love in your heart and an open mind, than you too can work at CALM.

We all work together, not just to fix the booboos and sunburn that people experience while living harmoniously in a national forest during a Rainbow Gathering. We do spiritual and emotional healings as well.

CALM is a workshop on how the various healing modalities can work in concert together to heal the body , mind and spirit of those at the Gathering. It is not unusual for an MD, an herbalist, a Reiki therapist and a chiropractor to all work together on a specific client to help with a healing. It is a place where practitioners teach each other about their various healing approaches. Personal ego trips are discouraged because healing energies and egos do not work well together.

Besides learning by doing, formal workshops are also offered. These may include such topics as herbal plant walks, body work, women’s health and midwifery and homeopathy. We invite and encourage people to offer these workshops as an opportunity to grow and share with each other.

CALM Council meets daily during the Gathering to democratically discuss issues which affect the efficient delivery of health care and to assess problems of sanitation on the Gathering in general. In these councils we share who we are and what we specifically do for healing modalities, discuss and develop treatment strategies for difficult to treat patients, and work on issues of quality control.

Ditto, I wish it weren't so !
I rode through Montana some years ago, so its been awhile, and it was Barren, sad. Here in New Mexico there used to be and still are many indigenous healing herbs but more and more they are only 'potentially' here, symbolically present. The irresponsible oil-and-gas march to drill wells across prairie lands replaced healthy medicinals with mutant plants. I like the thought that living is loving and all growth is somehow positive, so maybe our losses help spark our caring that will move us forward to continue to strengthen and grow. The closest well east if me got capped, shut down, after a few months of operation because the wanted natural gas was mixed with a dangerous gas. My idea is that the commercial invaders to my 'hood will pass on thru ...

Sure didn't mean to start an argument!!  Mullein is a fine herb for respiratory illness; ear problems, more uses, I'm sure; nice t-p too.  It may grow in all the states; it isn't endangered; but like all the good plants, it's cleared and replaced with grasses, bushes and stuff that often is foreign to our soils.  Ya can't go wrong promoting it!  More growing power to ya, Echo, and thanks for your work.

Oh. Repeating is usually unpretty, Acorn, and dampens enthusiasm caring well - is this Rainbow? I think no. We are people with positive fresh unique thinking minds and carings.

Mukkien already grows (as Little Wing has said) all over the continent.  It is not endangered and undoubtedly already grows in the Montana mtns too!

I read a global gathering is in Canada on the west shore this August, is CALM at the global gathering too?

I just figured out what Shephard's purse was after I pulled it all out of my strawberry patch.

You don't know how much mullein seed I've sent East. There's been SO MUCH clearing that you need to see a picture to I.D. a plant!
The way I figure it,God grows it, I share it, we all benefit.

See ya in Montana, Echo!  and, I hope, Jeepgirl!  Mullein is all around the country; an herb we can use more of everywhere!  Sure to see it in Montana mtns; have seen it at sea level on east coast.  Don't think there's a state (maybe Hawaii?) mullein doesn't grow.  Good thing.  Think there's 2 varieties in US.  Sure, bring your seed.  Sow it around the Gathering.  We have talked about leaving more plant life behind than before us, especially medicinals.  I'd love to see us leave sensitive, endangered species indigenous to the mountains we are in.  Or medicinals hard to find that will grow there.

Wow going to the Nationals Echo. YOU GO GIRL. You and hubby have fun. If you still have my email let me know the dates you will be gone. I have an opportunity to be in Tonasket over the Memorial weekend. Don't know if I'm going for sure. Haven't connected with anyone for so long. Will be spending 3 weeks with my daughter starting Thursday. She is having back surgery due to an auto accident last July. Hopefully it will give her relief from pain.
