Here is a rough draft of a poem I wrote, dedicated to you, detailing my experiences there:
'Out There Under the Rainbow'
In July we left civilization
to join ten thousand others
that wanted nothing more than an Om
In a time warp of sorts we read the Wasteland
in a land free of slum
free of dumbed-down mediocre media meltdowns
absent of anything that smelled of home
and when all was said and done
we were lost and for once
we were one all around
and when parted
my hollow bones cradled
by meditating ginger-eating elders
guided by flashlight flickers
back to Babylon
back to the streets
on my feet through brush on the hill
while you, solemn traveler, almost stolen by fairies, withdrew
to return to our tantrums
And with no tell of time ‘cept
the sight of the sun
we kept to no schedule
walked to no beat but our own
and slept with the trees ‘neath the stars
while trippers made love in the tent behind ours.
“If I came to a land of your children,”
“they would take me forever
and care for my dead”
as the drum circle shrank and it grew.
“A civilization shall spawn from you,
they’ll call themselves man
and he pulled from the shelves of his brain.
But better we knew.
What could we say
what could we do
while angel hands held us, passed us through
tunnels of peopled voices felt deep inside
and closer to heart
on a spot we’d found finally
but was there all along.
So goodbye forever for a week
as we eat in the meadow and lick our plates clean.
If only mom could see me now.
If only I’d howl with the others somehow
trading my pocket for yours
and losing the fight.
I surrender all I’ve learned tonight.
I wait and I wail:
The human race towards death
leaves my head lolling
my hands full of scars
and a jar stuffed with odds
that are means to my end.
I'm currently in the process of publishing an independent creative magazine. Please submit your work to me, as I'd love to publish work from my sisters and brothers. Details are below:
