RAINBOW FAMILY GATHERINGS: Unofficial Community for Rainbow Family Gatherngs
Gathering of the tribes for a meeting in the gateway to the stars.
Zuvuya Farm nestles at the foot of a mountain, abundant with streams and waterfalls. Bird life abounds and game returns slowly to the land. Sparkling spring water is piped into our homes, a legacy of the wonderful rain which falls in the summer months, winter days are warm and cloudless, the nights crisp beneath star-spangled skies. In the Dargle Valley of the Kwazulu Natal Midlands between Howick and Impendle on 1000 acres of rolling hills, lies a little piece of heaven.
In these beautiful surroundings, lives a growing community of people moving steadily towards being self-sufficient, enjoying an ecologically aware, spirit-filled life in cooperation with others sharing similar values. Beyond these objectives, Zuvuya will be a model of a sustainable way of living, reducing our footprint on the planet and reviving traditional modes of living; a showcase where our experience and knowledge can be shared with others as we re-learn.
Our values are practically lived out in a number of ways. We come together for bring-and-share meals, share child-minding, grow organic gardens, use compost toilets, build with materials that have low-embodied energy, re-use and recycle, carpool, and plan to provide all our energy needs through renewable sources.
Zuvuya holds musical, nature-centered, and spirit-based gatherings and events such as annual Winter and Summer Solstice and Equinox celebrations, drum circles, fire-dancing and story-telling performances, poetry readings, acoustic music performances and sweat lodge ceremonies.
Workshops on sustainable living, appropriate technology, alternate building methods, permaculture course modules and other themes will soon be offered, as well as camps for children and young adults from all walks of life. Spirit based, inspirational retreats are planned.
From a vision glimpsed by a few, some 10 or so years ago, a powerful and inspiring dream is unfolding. We learn every day in many ways how to live together again, in a lifestyle almost forgotten. Caring for the earth, all creatures and our fellows, we remember to care for ourselves as well.
